Biography

I started my career in research as an engineer at CareFusion in El Paso, TX, a topical antiseptics company, developing new infection prevention products after graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a biomedical engineering degree. I was co-inventor of four patent applications resulting in two granted patents. After studying bioinformatics at UTEP to gain a better understanding of protein structure and computer algorithms, I am pursuing a Bioengineering PhD at the University of Kansas. Solid-binding peptide tags are a biomimetic approach to solving interfacial challenges between materials and biotechnology. I design solid-binding peptides and the linking sequences between solid-binding peptides and their target proteins to enable engineered peptides and proteins to function in antibacterial activity, mineral formation and protein-immobilization functions.
